Healthy Exercise

Article by AudreyJ

What’s healthy exercise and what’s not? That’s what you’ll learn about here, starting with what’s not. It is not good for your health to run or jog when you are overweight. High impact aerobics of any kind are hard on your joints and could be too much for your heart. The disclaimer at the beginning of any exercise video or fitness book is there because exercising, when you are not in good health, can hurt you. You should always consult your doctor, before you begin any fitness program. Let’s assume that you have consulted your doctor and you were told that you needed to lose weight, in order to improve your health. But, you were not given a specific plan to follow. That’s very common. Unless your regular doctor is involved in sports medicine, he or she doesn’t care how you lose weight, as long as you do it. For many years, the mainstream medical community has maintained that one diet is as good as any other, if the outcome is weight loss. They have said that the body makeup doesn’t matter that much, as long as a person’s weight is within the range on their charts. The truth is this. With regular healthy exercise, you could weigh more than the maximum on those charts and still be in excellent health. If your blood pressure is good, your lung capacity is high, your blood triglycerides are within reasonable levels, your blood sugar levels are normal and your resting heart rate is low, you are probably in excellent health. So, it’s not all about how much you weigh. The bathroom scale is not a good tool for measuring your overall health. With regular healthy exercise, you build muscle. You may gain weight or fail to lose the pounds that you think you should in the amount of time that you think you should, but you are making progress. If you are a woman, you have breasts. Breasts are fat and tissues. Underneath that, you have your pectoral muscles, which you can develop and grow. The runway models with flat chests are not in good health. They are weak and sick. Often, they have stopped menstruating, because they don’t get enough calories. If you are a man and you start doing some light weight lifting and other healthy exercise, you are likely to start building muscle very quickly. Men usually have an easier time building muscle than women. They may be losing fat, rapidly, but the scale may not show it.Most doctors will say that regular walking is the best activity. Another good suggestion is the use of resistance bands. They allow a person to work at their own level of fitness and start building muscle, without becoming exhausted.Swimming, riding a stationary bike, particularly an incline bike, and beginning yoga are also good choices. Pilates work for some people, although others find them too exhausting. Basically, healthy exercise is any activity that can be performed comfortably, without hurting your joints or risking injury, because injuries delay success.

Healthy Exercise for a Healthy Living

Article by Sean Jordan

Going to gyms and fitness centers is now the “it” activity of this decade. Many people who are weight conscious go to the gym to keep their bodies fit. Others who just want to go with whatever is popular also go to the gym perhaps not just to be fit but to “fit in” as well. There are also exercise machines and equipment being promoted on home television shopping channels, on the internet, in billboards and in magazines. These are machines that you can use to exercise as if you are in the gym while actually enjoying the privacy of your own home.

You are reading this because chances are you are also planning to do exercises to improve your health. While that is also the general objective of most people who go to gyms or buy exercise equipment, what is the assurance that what you are really getting from these are healthy exercises? Here are some tips to guide you so that what ever exercise you will perform will be healthy and safe.

All exercises must be preceded by warm up exercises. These are meant to prepare the muscles for the stress that it is supposed to receive during the course of the exercise. Without these you are making yourself prone to injuries. Just as athletes do warm up routines before any game, everyone who will do exercises should also do warm up. Aside from preparing the muscles, warm up also preps you up so you can perform more actively.

If you are performing an exercise especially those that involve weights for the first time, try it out by initially using the lightest weight. For example you are doing the bench press, try doing the steps with just the bar. Put weights only after you have gotten used with the motions already. Make sure that you know the right positions and angles of arms before to go into heavy actions. Again this is to prevent injuries.

Avoid using weights beyond your limit. Though there will come a time as you progress that you can and you will add weight to what you are lifting, make sure that you add gradually. Do not right at once jump from something light to a really heavy one.

Always follow the set number of sets and repetitions for each exercise that you will do. You might think that increasing the number of sets or repetitions will do you good. The truth is that it is not always the case. Anything beyond normal can be harmful.

Your body also needs a rest period. You cannot just do one exercise after another unless of course you are doing circuit training. Allow your muscles to rest for a short while before you jump in to the next one.

Lastly, never forget to have somebody to spot you when you lift weights. There must be someone to help in case something happens with what you are lifting. Tough you may be used to lifting a given load, you can never tell when accidents will come in.

Healthy exercises are not done hastily. They are not like magic that will give you your desired result in a snap of a finger. Rushing things will not work. For exercises to work effectively you need to do them the proper way.

Healthy Exercise For Kids

Article by Bernard Yao

You will definitely want your kids to grow up as healthy human beings like most other parents would want. To be able to achieve this, they must follow an exercise regimen that will make them healthy and strong. Kids are naturally energetic and a little bit of healthy exercise will help them remain fit. The best form of workout is aerobics. It helps to make the heart muscles strong, thereby increasing oxygen circulation in blood. It also imparts flexibility to the body and makes muscles strong.

Playing basketball, swimming, jogging, skating, biking and rowing are some of the sports activities that can keep your kids healthy. Skipping, jumping Jack, hopscotch are some great exercises to make strong bones and muscles. Others include push ups, tug of war, pull ups, inline skating and running. All these exercises will help in making your kids healthy.

Flexibility is another important reason for which children need to do workouts. Kids are normally flexible and they are adept in moving their bodies. However, doing some exercises will help them maintain that flexibility through their age. Just visualize how nice it will be to touch your toes without any discomfort. Hence, stretching exercises are equally important for children. Some of them include, tumbling, martial arts, gymnastics, yoga, simple stretches such as backward bending and sideways bending.

Doing exercises is fun and more so because exercises release endorphins from our brain cells, which gives us a “feel good” sensation. Hence, exercise not only makes our body strong and healthy, but also elevates our mood and makes us happy.

Your kids must go through a proper warm up schedule before starting to exercise. Doing this regularly for 40 minutes will help your kids to become healthy. Normally, they are more interested in group activities, hence that can also be encouraged. As has been said earlier, exercise not only helps the body, but also the mind. Thus, remember to make your kids indulge in regular exercise and see them growing up into fit and confident human beings.
